Prospective Students

If you are interested in joining the lab send me an email (anne.dalziel”at”smu.ca) introducing yourself. Please include: i) an up-to-date C.V., ii) an unofficial transcript from undergraduate and graduate degrees (if relevant), iii) a brief description of your research interests (e.g., comparative physiology, molecular evolution, molecular ecology, etc.) and what aspects of my research program interest you, iv) information about desired start dates, v) funding you have applied for or would like to apply for (gradate students and PDFs). This will allow me to determine if our interests align and you will be a good match for the lab!

Undergraduate students: I normally hire 1-2 undergraduate students each summer through the SMUworks program or NSERC Undergraduate Research Awards. Applications for these jobs/scholarships occurs in February. I also normally take 1-2 BSc Honours students on each year; please contact me early in Winter semester to discuss Honours project opportunities. Note that a CGPA of at least 3.2/4.3 is required for the Biology Honours program.

Graduate students: I train graduate students as part of the MSc or PhD in Applied Science program at SMU. Past research experience (BScH or equivalent) and a strong GPA (> 3.0) are normally required, but students from non-traditional backgrounds with additional life experiences are encouraged to apply. All graduate students will be encouraged to apply for relevant scholarships, such as the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), Scotia Scholars and Nova Scotia Graduate Scholarships (NSGS). I will consider International scholars with a strong academic background, but the high costs of tuition for non-permanent residents/non-citizens of Canada means that students will require additional external funding.

Postdoctoral fellows: At present I do not have sufficient research funds to hire PDFs, but always have space for PDFs with their own funding!
